The difference between electrolytic capacitor and ceramic capacitor

The ceramic capacitor is a capacitor made of a ceramic material as a medium, a layer of metal film coated on the surface of the ceramic, and then sintered at a high temperature as an electrode. Ceramic capacitors are mostly used as loop capacitors and pad capacitors for high-stability oscillation circuits, which function as filters, decoupling, and signal coupling. Ceramic capacitors have a small capacity, high pressure resistance, good stability, and are used in high voltage and high frequency circuits. The ceramic capacitor has no polarity and the equivalent series inductance is small.

ceramic capacitor and electrolytic capacitor

Ceramic capacitors have high frequency characteristics and are used in high frequency circuits. The ceramic capacitor can filter out high-frequency ripple, so it can be used as a high-pass filter. Ceramic capacitors can be used for pure AC circuits.

The electrolytic capacitor is a capacitor made of a metal foil (aluminum/antimony) as a positive electrode, an insulating oxide layer (aluminum oxide/niobium oxide) of a metal foil as a dielectric, and a conductive material, an electrolyte, and other materials constituting a cathode. Electrolytic capacitors are used for filtering, decoupling, signal coupling, time constant setting, and DC blocking in medium and low frequency circuits. Electrolytic capacitors have large capacity, but they are not resistant to high voltage, have unstable capacity, and have a short lifetime. They are used in low-voltage and low-frequency circuits. Electrolytic capacitors are graded and their equivalent series inductance is large.

Electrolytic capacitors have good low-frequency characteristics and are mostly used in low-frequency circuits. They can filter out low-frequency ripples and can be used as low-pass filters; they cannot be used in pure AC power circuits.

Ceramic capacitor has small capacity, high pressure resistance, good stability, high voltage, high frequency circuit, non-polarity of ceramic capacitor, low equivalent series inductance, large capacity of electrolytic capacitor, but not high voltage, unstable capacity, life span Shorter; for low voltage; low frequency circuit. Electrolytic capacitor is graded and has large equivalent series inductance.
